Consultations

For consultations, we will meet with you on your project site. A specialized Landscape Questionnaire will be sent before the first meeting for you to complete and return. The questionnaire allows us to be aware of your needs and desires prior to that meeting, saving valuable consultation time.

During the first consultation we will provide a range of solutions and suggestions, identify problems and possibilities, and provide plant recommendations. The consultation often ends with a decision to contract with us for further design services. Plant Identification and gardening tips for your site may be included in consultations.

If the Landscapes for Life team is hired for a full landscape design, the first consultation is complementary.

Site Assessment

Our assessment will consider the soils, existing vegetation, existing features (boulders, specimen trees and shrubs, views, etc.), wildlife habitat, slope, site climate (wind & sun), runoff potential, wildfire concerns, existing buildings and hardscape, utilities and more. Information gathered from this assessment is critical to a well thought out design.

Project Designs

We provide a wide range of design opportunities to the client:

• Simple Hand Drawn Sketch – This is used as a guide to convey conceptual design ideas.

• Color Photo Design Booklet- This is a design technique unique to Landscapes for Life. We photograph the site and assemble a Publisher Document with text and key notes to describe the treatment for each photo. A schedule is included providing a summary of the plants suggested in the design along with a list of suggested landscape contractors and specialists.

• Residential Design – This requires a scaled site plan of the project area. These designs range from a single Illustrative Landscape Plan sheet to a 5-6 sheet set of Site, Hardscape, Water Harvesting & Irrigation, Planting and Low-voltage Lighting Plans with maintenance schedule, notes and details. Each design is tailored for the client and the project site. The cost of a design depends on what is desired and required.

Landscapes for the Highlands – This 84 page spiral bound full-color reference book contains photographs and detailed information about native plants available for design in our region. Written by Nichole Trushell, edited by Steve Morgan.

Distinctive Construction Projects

We specialize in the design of natural-looking stone walls, stone and metal water-features and sculptures. We provide construction oversight of custom outdoor spaces that we have designed. For specific examples, visit the Design Elements section of our Project Gallery.

Specialties

Entry Design

The entry is the most crucial portion of the landscape as more people pass through this space than any other outdoor area.

A rich inviting entry will be long remembered by visitors to your home.

Design with Native Plants

Our focus is on using plants that are locally or regionally native to the project area. These plants will become established in a few years. The result is a balanced, very low maintenance landscape that provides habitat for you and life around your home.

Who doesn’t want beautiful hummingbirds, butterflies and other wildlife flitting around fragrant flowers, bringing color
and life to the yard?

Creating balance and allowing diversity are key to creating a habitat or pollinator garden.

We can create this!

Healing Gardens

A healing garden can be designed for a specific health concern or for a general calming environment to reduce the stress of everyday life.

We can design one or several spaces
for different but related needs.
